I did a living room makeover several months ago, and I thought it was time to tackle my bedroom. This is something that I actually think is more feasible at this point, as I have several of the key pieces and really just need to assemble the bedding and a couple of other items. Take a peek and let me know what you think.
1. Colorband quilt from Anthropologie
I absolutely love the mix of yellows and oranges in with the blues and greys on this quilt. Plus, the banded pattern gives it a graphic modern look that I love.
2. vintage chair from thrift shop
Ignore the pretty girl. This is the vintage chair I bought a couple of years ago from a used furniture store here in town. I love the shape (and it swivels -- fun!), I love the color, I just love everything about it. It is pretty similar to this chair from Room and Board, but the back section is smoother and not connected to the base. The base is rounder, rather than squared off, and the legs are shorter. Mine is a pale yellow, almost a golden tan, in color.
3. Lotte lamps
I love the shape of this lamp -- it's modern with a rich glaze, but it's not too minimalist. I'm having trouble deciding what color I'd go for, though; any of the colors in the image would work beautifully with the quilt I've chosen. I don't know that I'd go with a pure white shade either, but that's something that could be experimented with as well.
4. Danish modern storage side table
Right now, I use a bookshelf for my nightstand, which is convenient since I read so much. But I'd like something that looks a bit more like a nightstand, you know? That's where this lovely comes in. There's lots of great storage, the lines are gorgeous, and I love the dark wood. (Yes, I picked it for my living room too -- I can't help it! I love this piece!!!)
5. Linear rug
I wouldn't normally pick up something this graphic, but I keep coming back to this one because I love how it picks up the blues in the quilt and the dark wood of the nightstands.
6. wooden screen for headboard
This is something that I picked up for free from an old shop in my hometown. The building was going to be demolished because of storm damage, so they were getting rid of everything inside. I had spotted this large wooden room divider months before, and I asked it if I could have it. They said yes. It's large, like the one shown (but without feet or the scrollwork at the top), and the pattern is similar to that on the headboard shown -- except much much smaller. The plan is to paint it and mount it to the wall behind our bed as a headboard. I love the graphic punch it will bring to the room.
7. dresser (repainted) and yellow hardware from Anthropologie
We stopped by the Nashville store last weekend, and I snagged 8 (the only 8 they had) of these yellow knobs for $2.50 each; they were originally priced at $8.95, so I was thrilled. I'll paint the chest of drawers we already have -- probably one of the blue or gray colors in the quilt, most likely. (can't find a photo anywhere -- and forgot to take a picture of the ones I bought)
8. Alvine Flata curtain panels
These aren't exactly the ones I liked so much when I visited Ikea in Cincinnati back at the beginning of November. But they are similar. The ones I liked more were closer to an eyelet panel. Regardless, I like the lighter curtains against painted walls and to offset the amount of color in the room.
9. Filigree leaf sheet set
At first I was thinking of just going with a simple white set with perhaps some eyelet trim or something, but then I found these. Yes, it's a ton of color and pattern to add to the quilt, but I think they are gorgeous. Since we've got two pillows each, I'd use a white pillowslip for the second pillows, just to break up a big of that yellow.
10. art
I have several pieces that are already in the room, including these portraits that Cami did for us:
I also have a Hatch show print for the Damien Rice concert that was here at Murray State a couple of years ago; it's full of lovely yellows and rich blues. I still haven't gotten it framed -- but that is tops on my to-do list.
If I could, I'd some photographs from our trip to San Francisco last summer, as well as a few photos of the girls. I think I'd opt for framing them all in these square Fjallsta frames from Ikea.
And for the bonus, I think I'd choose something like this gray (it's Behr Squirrel -- ha!) for the walls, with white trim. I'm thinking this gray has a bit too much brown/taupe in it -- I'd prefer something with a touch more blue, but I love how yellow and orange look when partnered with blues and grays. Still, I love the richness of this color and would opt for something deep like this.
oh my, i adore all this stuff. i should just have you come decorate my house :)
