Thanks to everyone who played along last week. If you'd like to see last week's layout, visit the summary page. This week, we've got another fairly common challenge for you, but I'm sure that we'll see a number of creative interpretations. So let's get to it!
Creating shaped text is something that anyone can do -- whether you handwrite on all your layouts, or you use a word processing program or a graphics program. From wavy lines of writing to curved chunks of text, using shapes makes your journaling interesting and helps add symbolism to your page. Let's see what this week's contributors did with the challenge:
Jennifer created a round journaling block that peeks out from under her large focal point photo. Using this round shape echoes other round shapes in the design -- from the epoxy element at the top of the photo to the shape of her baby's head. This creates a visual triangle and pulls all the elements of her design together beautifully.
Supplies:
paper, elements- your butterfly fancy kit
stitches-Stitched by Anna Borders No. 01 (designer digitals)
tag-Katie Pertiet (designer digitals)
brush-Ali Edwards title + journal photo overlays No. 2 (designer digitals)
Danielle created a paper layout that relies on several pre-made text elements. Since they were already in square/rectangle shapes (reflected throughout the rest of her layout), she added visual interest to a standard journaling block by adding brackets to either side. The shape is still rectangular, but the brackets add movement. Supplies: Cosmo Cricket Everafter patterned
paper: Something old, Something true ; Cosmo Cricket Everafter Elements
and Border strips; plus Black bazzil cardstock, American crafts
patchwork thickers, Sassafrass lass flower and Jenni Bowlin Pearl
flowers, Font: Honey Script downloaded from the internet.
Gennifer put together a lovely layout that incluced a large monogram
created out of text. She typed the word "adorable" multiple times, and
then clipped it to a large letter A. The result is a unique
embellishment that really emphasizes the message of the entire layout.
Supplies: Butterfly Fancy kit by Audacious Designs, fonts are Will&Grace for the large "a," Migraine Serif for the text inside the "a," and Beautiful ES and Beautiful Caps ES for the yellow "adorable."
To participate this week, just do the following:
1. Create a layout using shaped text.
2. Post your layout in a gallery or on your blog.
3. Leave a comment on this thread, linking to your layout.
Layouts are due by midnight EST, Friday, July 17th, 2009.
These are some beautiful layouts - I especially love the first one. I envy that scrapping style - it doesn't seem to be a natural skill for me.
Do you have any tips for PSE users on making shaped text? Or is it just manual line breaks?
