One of the best things about the CT call I had was being introduced to a number of new scrappers; my favorite part was going to their galleries to look at all the layouts they'd created. This month's guest scrapper is Liz Jobes (lizziej). Here's some more information about Liz, in her own words:
Here are some of Liz's beautiful layouts, created with my designs.
One of my favorite scrapbooking techniques is
making a frame out of patterned paper. First figure out what size frame
you want and how wide you want it. Choose the paper. Click on the
crop tool. Starting in the left-hand top corner, click and drag to the
size you want, both height and width - use the rulers as
guides. Then let go of the mouse button. You will see marching
ants. Click to confirm. Next, choose the marquee tool. Using
the ruler, put your cursor in the left-hand corner exactly at the width you want
the frame to be and then click and drag the cursor until you get that same width
all the way around - you should end up at the bottom right-hand corner.
(For instance in my example, I made an 8-inch frame that's 1/2-inch wide.
I put my cursor at 1/2-inch on both the width ruler and the height
ruler.) Let go of the mouse button - you should see marching ants.
Click select, then inverse - you should now have two areas of marching
ants. Click edit, then copy, and then paste the frame onto your
layout. You can now add effects and anything else you want to your
frame. See the layout below for an example.
My favorite journaling technique is writing as though I'm talking to my
son, and I like to give him the stories behind the photographs, in addition to
identifying the photographs. Here's an example:
My scrapbooking process can
vary, but I think for the most part I find a kit and then find photos to go with
it. Then I think about the journaling and about how much room I will
need for it. I usually don't have a sketch in mind; that usually comes as
I'm choosing papers and elements from the kit to go with the photos, and I'm
constantly moving things around. I tend to experiment a lot with
background papers - one of the best things I love about digi scrapping!
There have been a lot of times when I think a paper won't go with a photo, and I
try it and it turns out to be even better than my first choice!
I scrapbook not only to preserve
memories for my son but as a creative outlet and to de-stress. It's
wonderful to be able to look back, relive the moments and forget about
life's everyday stresses for a little while.
Thanks for sharing your gorgeous layouts with us, Liz!
Congrats to Liz! I love her layouts - the live by faith one is my favorite. So neat to read about techniques and the different ways scrapbookers look at things
